Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) M1918

The BAR rifle was introduced by US Army late in WWI, but continued to serve even in the Korean war. BAR was heavy machine rifle that was originally intended to deliver burst fire from standing positions to relatively close ranges. Because of the heavy caliber and limited magazine capacity long bursts were not practical anyway. At its time, BAR was portable and mobile weapon system that offered much needed firepower to infantry. However, it was commonplace that bipod, butt strap and muzzle attachment were discarded by frontline troops to reduce weight. The M1918 BAR was standard fire support weapon of American infantry squads and was much trusted upon. Its reputation still stands strong.

M1918A2 version of the BAR brought various improvements including bipod and carry handle.
